Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need an editor?
Because you want your final product to communicate what you hoped—and to do it in a way that is appealing to your audience.
If you want your final product to be readable, professional, usable, and even money-making, take advantage of our combined 30 years of experience in publishing and marketing.
What is the difference between proofreading and editing?

Impact Editing offers several types of editing.

  • Proofreading is best understood as a final check for simple errors in such areas as grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. It doesn’t include changes in content or organization.
  • Copyediting includes the simple details above, plus more in-depth editing that improves accuracy, and provides consistency of style, sentence structure, and formatting. We also make suggestions to you regarding minor content changes.
  • Substantive editing is the most comprehensive. It includes copyediting, plus checking for content organization, flow, awkward transitions, tone, and more. It assesses how you are coming across to your audience in understanding and readability. It alerts you to whatever else your manuscript might need for it to meet professional standards and be an effective communication tool. This level is also useful if you are a new writer or your project is not in refined shape and needs heavier work.
How long will it take to proofread my website?
That depends on the length and complexity of your site. The average amount of time is two to six hours, but it can be more time if you have a comprehensive retail or information site.
I need a fast turn-around time. Can you accommodate rush jobs?
Yes, often we can. Give us a call to see if we have a slot in our schedule that’s open for you.
I run a small publishing house. Can you handle project management or all editorial services?
Our team has 30 years of combined experience in all levels of editing and project management. Let us know your needs, and if we can’t currently meet them, we’ll attempt to refer you to someone who can.
At what stage of the writing process do I need to have my book edited?
As you’re writing your book, it’s important to have both professional guidance and wholehearted encouragement from the very beginning. That’s why we recommend that you contact Impact Editing as early in your book-writing process as possible.
I tried to edit my website and blog on my own. Does it still need a proofreader?
Definitely. Even a seasoned writer needs an editor. A second eye will catch things you don’t see. Along with our editing and proofreading services, Impact Editing makes sure that your site is appealing to your readers and that it speaks to your target readership.
What will it cost to edit my ebook?
That depends on the level of editing you choose and the length of your manuscript. Please go to our Impact Editing Pricing page for more information. Or contact us today.
How do I submit my work to you?
Work can be submitted by e-mail file, by mail, or by FedEx. There are three easy ways to contact us for same-day response:
  • Give us a quick call at 719.640.8851.
  • E-mail Lori@ImpactEditing.com
  • Fill out the information form on this website’s Contact Us page and describe your project to us. We’ll take it from there.
What is the customer benefit to having you do link checking on my site?
Have you ever been misdirected by a bad link? If you’re like most of us, you probably moved right on to another website. We at Impact Editing will make sure all your website links work perfectly, which means your customers and readers will stay on your site longer—and come back for more.
Can I have my web content reviewed for awkward navigation and link checking only?
You sure may. Contact us with your request.
What is the rate or fee for reviewing rewrites on each round?
If we request rewrites from you, it is important to have those rewrites reviewed and edited/proofed again. Our fee to handle rewrites is $30 per hour. Rewrite checking usually goes quickly.
